Pharmakon, the noise project of New York’s Margaret Chardiet, released something of a rough but very cherished gem with 2013’s Abandon - it made our end of year highlight list with ease.

Her agonizingly brilliant, brilliantly agonizing screams and drones will rise from the deep once more as she prepares her second album. Bestial Burden is due on October 13 via Sacred Bones.

Its inception traces back to a medical emergency Chardiet underwent just before a tour, leaving her bedridden with a missing organ, leading her to the intriguing divide of the conscious mind and the physical vessel we wear as a body. So that explains her continually gruesome, highly potent album cover.
