Chic-pop? Okay, then, we’re on board. “Not Kings” has a grace and polish deserving of its own little corner; it’s a discernibly British piece of minimalist, percussion-driven pop music which spirals back around on itself and is gorgeous for its simplicity. The refrain’s gentle harmonies and the overlapping instrumentation waltz around each other, confident but not cocksure. There’s a sway to Candy Says, but no swagger, and “Not Kings” has a welcoming lilt which secretly renders it a damn potent listen. It takes brilliance to make music that’s simultaneously this laid-back and compelling.

This is delightful, but that doesn’t feel like a big enough word.
